Change and Challenge

With Nathan Daniels getting sick with pneumonia several days before Sunday morning, Jay Barber (a member of our preaching team) stepped in to deliver a timely sermon entitled ‘Change and Challenge’. Jay challenges the congregation to find renewed vision and commitment during this season of pastoral transition. Final Countdown Greetings

Pastor David Robinson delivers his last sermon as Lead Pastor of Cannon Beach Community Church, after 31 years of serving this church community. He offers 10 ways of living wisely for Jesus, modeling after the words of farewell that Paul writes to the Colossians at the end of his letter. Following this sermon is a service of farewell led by the staff of the Pacific Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church, as well as a service of installation of Nathan Daniels as our new Lead Pastor.

Scripture Songs

Pastor David Robinson brings us another message in music, playing the piano and singing ten Scripture Songs he’s composed from God’s Word. Paul tells us in Col. 3:16, to “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Music is one of the sweetest ways for God’s Word to dwell richly within us.

Psalm Songs

On the 2nd Sunday of Advent, in place of a sermon Pastor David sang and played on the piano half an hour of Psalm Songs he’s written from a variety of Psalms, as a way to celebrate Paul’s teaching in Colossians 3:16. Wisdom for Home and Work

This Sunday Pastor David brings a message titled ‘Wisdom for Home and Work’, from Colossians 3:18–4:1. We will look at wisdom for married couples, wisdom for parenting, and wisdom for our work life (both for paid work and volunteer service for the Lord). Paul encourages us to do our work “with all our heart, as working for the Lord . . . since we know that we will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.”

Pastor David brings us a sermon titled Clothed in Christ, from Colossians 3:12-17. A New Creation

This week we continue our study in the book of Colossians by looking at Colossians 3:5-11 and reflecting upon the things that we ‘put to death’ in order to pursue the new life that Christ has for us. In this passage Paul encourages us to ‘strip off our old way of life and its practices’ so that we may be clothed anew in Christ and renewed in knowledge according to our creator.

Seek the Things Above

This week as we continue our study in the book of Colossians by reflecting upon the things that we seek after. In Colossians 3:1-4, Paul invites us to focus our minds, our hearts, and every fiber of our being upon the sovereignty of our God as we live into the world around us. He reminds us that our lives are hidden with Christ in God and encourages us to seek after the Lord as He reveals Himself to us.

Grow as Christ’s Body

Pastor David gives the message ‘Growing as Christ’s Body’ from Colossians 2:16-23. We will explore hindrances to growing in Christ’s Body, including legalism, letting others judge us, belonging to the world more than to Jesus, and allowing ourselves to be ruled by indulgence. We will explore how to grow as Christ’s Body, by connecting to the Head, loving one another, being knit together, and growing as God causes us to grow.

The Fullness of God

Pastor David Robinson brings a message titled The Fullness of God, from Colossians 2:8-15. We will look at life choices we make: between being empty or full, dead or alive, condemned or free. There are many types of emptiness we face in life, including empty ways of thinking, empty philosophies, empty activities, empty pursuits. Our God keeps inviting us out of a life of emptiness, encouraging us to be filled with all the fullness of God found in Christ.

Christ Songs

This message centers on the concept of Christ as the “image of the invisible God” and explores the power of music and hymns in worship. Pastor David reflects on a Christ hymn within the passage, emphasizing key titles for Jesus: the image, the firstborn, the head of the church, and the beginning. Through Christ, the visible and invisible, and all of creation are reconciled. Pastor David then encourages us to memorize and internalize these scriptures like an “earworm,” much like beloved songs, to deepen our relationship with Jesus.

Pastor David gives a message from Colossians 1:9-14, titled “Make My Life a Prayer to You.” We will look at Paul’s prayer for the Church, exploring these themes: pray at all times, walk in a worthy manner, joyfully give thanks. Our prayer for you is that our Lord will bear fruit in your lives in every good work you do; that you will grow in the knowledge and strength of God; that you will have great endurance and patience. Greetings and Gratitude

This week begins our journey in the book of Colossians, a remarkable letter written by Paul and Timothy to the saints and faithful ones in Colossae. We’ll be focusing our attention upon Paul’s greeting and the words of thanksgiving that he shares with the believers in Colossians 1:1-8. These are words of joy and hope, growth and identity, and I pray that we receive these words as a great encouragement.
